Nitrogen dynamics in agroforestry systems. A review

چکیده
Agroforestry is an agricultural diversification practice that purposefully grows trees together with crops and/or animals. Nitrogen (N) plays a pivotal role in the sustainability and productivity of these systems. In this study, we synthesize our current understanding data availability N dynamics agroforestry systems, providing first comprehensive synthesis on major pathways agroforests. We review five categories pools fluxes: input, internal cycle, sequestration, loss, output. Within categories, compile from worldwide measurements input gaseous emissions. The inputs among systems are N2 fixation through leguminous (global average: 240 kg ha–1 yr–1), organic amendments inorganic fertilizers (36 and, possibly, undocumented deposition. Various identified cycles: direct transfer fixed tree to crop, mineralization matter originating trees, pumping up subsoil by roots, ammonia captured trees. practices almost consistently show reductions via soil erosion, runoff, leaching. release as nitrous oxide (N2O) (~4.7 N2O–N yr–1) nitric (NO). Documentation of Indigenous Pacific Agroforestry Systems: A Review of Methodologies
Recent interest in indigenous agroforestry has led to a need for documentation of these systems. However, previous work is very limited, and few methodologies are well-known or widely accepted. This paper outlines various methodologies (including sampling methods, data to be collected, and considerations in analysis) for documenting structure and productivity of indigenous agroforestry systems,...
متن کاملKnowledge Systems in Agroforestry
Pacific Islands agroforestry has evolved into sustainable, diverse and productive a land use systems in many areas. We marvel at these systems, and the scientific world is trying to catch up with the traditional knowledge. At the same time, Pacific Islands farmers are abandoning their agroforestry systems in great numbers. It is mainly intensified agriculture for cash crop production that follo...
متن کاملRationing in health systems: A critical review
Background: It is difficult to provide health care services to all those in need of such services due to limited resources and unlimited demands. Thus, priority setting and rationing have to be applied. This study aimed at critically examining the concept of rationing in health sector and identifying its purposes, influencing factors, mechanisms, and outcomes. Methods: The c...
متن کاملCarbon sequestration in tropical agroforestry systems
Removing atmospheric carbon (C) and storing it in the terrestrial biosphere is one of the options, which have been proposed to compensate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agricultural lands are believed to be a major potential sink and could absorb large quantities of C if trees are reintroduced to these systems and judiciously managed together with crops and/or animals. Thus, the importance of ...
متن کاملBirds as predators in tropical agroforestry systems.
Insectivorous birds reduce arthropod abundances and their damage to plants in some, but not all, studies where predation by birds has been assessed. The variation in bird effects may be due to characteristics such as plant productivity or quality, habitat complexity, and/or species diversity of predator and prey assemblages. Since agroforestry systems vary in such characteristics, these systems...
